In Mark Twain’s magnificent “Following the Equator,” he recalls the days when you had to bring your own deck chair with you on your trip and how his fell apart within days. Thankfully, with the chaise lounges being made today by top manufacturers, you don’t have to relive Twain’s experience.

You can, however still purchase steamer chaise lounges, which don’t look much different than those that passengers brought aboard ships back at the turn of the 20th century. These give your deck or patio space a lovely retro look that is hard to beat. They are also extremely comfortable, given their tremendous adjust ability and thoughtful addition of padded cushions.

Many of these models come in teak and for your money, you really can’t beat a teak chaise. The fine construction and all-weather nature of the wood will give you years and years of use.

Another popular option is the outdoor chaise for two. Though they are connected by the same frame, each lounger can be adjusted individually, so you and your sunbathing mate can choose your own level of comfort. Many of these chaises also allow you to adjust the leg position as well as the one for the back.

You can also get single sunloungers with the same level of adjustment. These are ideal if you want to keep moving with the sun and your partner is happy right where they are. They can still be set side by side when you wish, but have the added flexibility to go it when the situation warrants.
